Our Mission

Youth Civic Review is a student-led publication dedicated towards making law, policy, rights, journalism, and public issues easier for young people to understand. Our goal is to turn complicated civic topics into clear, readable articles that help students become more informed and involved in their communities.

Through civic explainers, opinion essays, and student submissions, Youth Civic Review gives young people a place to learn, question, and share their perspectives. We believe civic education should not be something memorized in class, but something used to understand the world.

About the Founder

Viviana Thumm

Youth Civic Review was founded by Viviana Thumm, a 16-year-old writer interested in journalism, law, and civic engagement. After writing opinion pieces and exploring legal and policy-related work, she created Youth Civic Review to give students a clearer way to understand the issues that affect their schools, communities, and rights.

As founder and editor, Viviana writes civic explainers and opinion pieces, reviews student submissions, and works to build a platform where young people can use their voices thoughtfully and responsibly.
